Shyster's and Swindler's Con Games

Tuesday, February 20, 2024

I see it everyday. I live it everyday. From new clients telling me about their experience with website design companies or through spam email from someone saying they are, or work for, a reputable SEO webdesign company and can make my site better — and this is to my Davenport Website Designs email. Yeah. I want another website company, which they are not, some person not in the US that has a computer that has some knowledge of the internet, to maintain MY Website Company website. Really?

The thing that people miss, and you probably think I am doing it to you, is that website design companies, or individuals who say they know how to put your site on the first page of Google, or can take your business to new heights, are a penny a hundred — or more. As I mentioned in many articles on this site such as, A Website Is Not A Pot of Boiling Water, you could be just like them and take a few weeks learning, maybe a course or two, and do your website yourself — there is nothing stopping you.

How I differ from them is, I am not sending you an email saying there are errors on your site and I can improve it. If you asked me to look and there were, sure I would tell you, but I would also show you the facts with tools I use to test the speed, accuracy, SEO, content, and other things that search engines look for in ranking a website and its pages. Never should anyone sign up and do business with someone they do not know sending them an out of the blue, cold-calling email that they can help them with their site. These are Shysters and Swindlers that take your money and do not do anything productive, worthwhile, or useful to improve your website rankings.

Even the reputable ones slide if no one questions them

I know of a company that uses an established website service that focuses on the home improvement industry. The company paid the website service handsomely for all their hard work. After looking into the other home improvement companies this website service created websites for, all of them looked exactly the same. The differences were the companies branding: logo and colors, and images. Other then that, they were exactly the same, even the code when you viewed the source and the style sheets — they did not even change the name of the company it was for on one — OOPS?

If Company A, the first one the website service did a website, paid $25,000 for their website. Company B, also paid the same as did C, D, E, and so one. But what did the website service actually do to earn that $25,000 from each? NOTHING! They just duplicated and took two days to rewrite the content and such and made $25,000 — FOR SHAME!

Novelties and Gimmicks they try to Con you.

Animation and motion of your content on your site — ooh, movement on static content. Yeah, I use them for my sites, not anyone else's, unless they want them, but I do not charge extra. There are basic website elements that should be there no matter what. There are also things that should not be and they sell it to you like its the bees knees or if you do not have it, your site will suffer. HA!

Yes, I laugh. I laugh at the person pitching the hype, and then I laugh at the person swallowing the hype. Where is my compassion? Where is my Christ-like love for my fellow brothers and sisters? I cannot and will not pander to the stupid and closed-minded. You get what you pay for. You deserve your pennence. Those that jump before looking are not going to have a very fun landing.

In my many years of breathing, I have been duped three times. The first I was young and it was my fault. The last two, I was trusting a friend and then a film professional. The latter one, which is the most recent on my film Petite Chardonnay. I trusted the casting director on his choices for two actors. These actors were not anywhere near the quality of some of the children that were in the movie. The film turned out awesome due to editing, but I swore from then on, if my instincts say I want or do not want something for my film, I am not changing my mind no matter who says to. And this has led me to get out of many uncomfortable and possibly unsafe and life threatening situations — the taxi we almost took in France was a bit odd, may not have been life threatening, but we could have been taken for everything we brought.

Do not be a Victim

I wondered about this since I was three. What is common sense? Does everyone have it when they are born? Is it instinctual? Can it be learned? I know some and see many people who do not have it, or they do not practice it in public or at all. The best way to NOT be a VCITIM in any situation is use your brain. You got one, USE IT!

Before you do any transaction, travel, or anything pretty much, know what you are doing before you do it, and if you do not know, DO NOT DO IT. Seek help from professionals, family, and friends — people you should trust, and of you cannot trust them, you need to find new ones.
